現在タタールと呼ばれる民族は、ロシア連邦、アストラハン、シベリア、クリミア、ベラルーシ、リトアニア、ポーランド、トルコ、そして日本に広がっており、地中海、黒海、カスピ海を文化圏として共有しています。
